Northern province keeps economic growth target despite Covid-19

Despite the significant impact of the Covid-19 on the economy, Quang Ninh province’s leaders maintain the target of obtaining an economic growth rate of over 12% this year.

During a meeting on February 13th, Nguyen Xuan Ky, Secretary of the Quang Ninh provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, urged departments and localities to carry out drastic measures to achieve the goal, not adjusting the socio-economic target for the year.
In public investment, he asked for stricter financial and budget regulations. “In particular, the province does not adjust the target to collect budget from localities,” he said.
Departments, localities and related agencies were requested to put forth capital for good ongoing constructions to complete them and put them into operation; and ensure the progress in the inauguration of key projects.
To promote economic growth, Mr. Ky noted that departments and localities need to increase administrative reform, and further improve investment and business environment.
“Effective and urgent measures will have to be realized to prevent Covid-19 and protect people’s health; thus ensuring sustainable socio-economic development and social order; preparing for the success of Party Congress at all levels,” he said./.
