Building a cultural life in Dong Van commune, Quang Ninh’s Binh Lieu district

Over the years, along with promoting economic development, Dong Van commune in Binh Lieu district, the northern province of Quang Ninh, has always paid attention to building cultural life, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the people.
Dong Van is a mountainous, highland and border commune of Binh Lieu district. The whole commune has nine villages with ethnic groups living together, 75% of which are ethnic Dao. Determining to build a healthy cultural environment and rich spiritual life is to contribute to maintaining legal discipline, promoting economic development, and creating a solid basis for building a new countryside, Dong Van commune has paid much attention to deploying the movement to unite all people to build cultural life in residential areas.

Secretary of Dong Van Commune Party Committee and Chairman of Dong Van Commune People’s Committee Ly Van Binh said that implementing the movement, the Commune Party Committee issued a resolution focusing on directing organizations to actively mobilize people to carry out the movement to build cultural families and villages; mobilize all social resources to build, renovate and perfect the system of village cultural houses.
In 2019, all villages in the commune were recognized as cultural villages. 82% of the families in the commune were recognized as cultural families. All families practice thrift in marriage and funeral ceremonies, actively participate in the movement of culture, arts and sports, and preserve and promote cultural beauty, fine customs and traditions.
100% of the cultural houses in hamlets in the commune meet the standards. Cultural institutions are exploited and used effectively to disseminate the Party's guidelines and policies, the State’s laws. Cultural and sports activities also take place at the cultural houses during festivals. Especially, cultural houses have become centers of cultural and sports activities of the hamlets, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the people.
Secretary of Khe hamlet Party Committee Duong Phuc Thim said that there are 65 households in the hamlet. All of them are Dao ethnic minority. Local people’s daily life has been changed. Many households know how to develop tourism services, make homestays, and raise cold-water fish. Backward customs in marriage and funerals have gradually been removed and the traditional cultural values of the nation are preserved.
It is known that by the end of 2019, the commune's socio-economic development is stable. The production value of all economic sectors reaches VND 100 billion. The average income per person is VND 33 million. The economic structure is shifted in a positive direction, gradually increasing the proportion of services.
The achieved results are the motivation for people in the border and upland of Dong Van to continue emulating production labor, becoming rich and making Dong Van a new rural commune that is increasingly rich, beautiful and civilized./.
