Children with inborn heart diseases given free check-ups

The Quang Ninh provincial Department of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs has worked with the provincial fund for children, the Hanoi Heart Hospital and Bai Chay district Hospital to organize the program providing check-ups for children with inborn heart diseases in the province.

Under the program, doctors conducted necessary tests and consultancy on children to detect any possible heart diseases. After that, children in need of operations were directed to the surgical unit at the Hanoi Heart Hospital, with priority given to children from poor families and those near the poverty line across 135 communes in the province. On the opening day of the program on August 27, 150 children were tested, detecting 11 who needed operations. Some 300 others were given heart check-ups at the end of the program this year.

The program has been conducted since 2006. So far 860 children have been given heart check-ups, and 132 provided surgeries with capital assistance of VND5.2 billion./.
