Quang Ninh leader praises successful whale rescue

(CPV) - Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Van Doc, has issued a dispatch to the Party Committee, authority and people of Co To Island district to praise them for successfully rescuing a whale caught on a shoal.

Accordingly, around 8pm on September 3, after discovering a 2-ton whale caught on a shoal near the Nam Hai coast of Co To town, cadres and local residents quickly took measures to rescue the whale. Hundreds of people, with the help of two excavators, dug a channel to give the whale a path back to the sea.
After the whale swam to sea, people continued to patrol along the coast in the rain, both boats and walking on shore, to see if the whale successfully went back to out to sea; if not, they would continue to help the whale again.
Earlier, residents on Co To island many times rescued precious animals such as dolphins, tortoise or turtles, helping them return to sea successfully.
The chairman of the provincial People’s Committee said that these activities held deep humanitarian significance, contributing to protecting wild animals and preserving biological diversity that is at risk.
In the dispatch, he also called on other localities to learn from the example of environmental and natural protection of Co To Island district, thus obeying the law on environmental protection, the law on biological diversification, the law on forest protection and expansion, and related legal documents to protect wild animals, the environment and biological diversity./.
