It also said that while inspecting the traffic safety, the agencies discovered three cases of criminal violations, illegal drug storage and robbery.

Quang Ninh newspaper quoted colonel Nguyen Quang Thanh, Head of the city Police, saying that the number of traffic accidents remained high in the first 8 months, with 19 cases reported, resulting in 21 deaths and 4 injuries.

According to Mr. Thanh, there were diverse causes affecting traffic safety, including poor awareness of drivers, limited dissemination of laws on traffic safety, poor condition of roads and bridges, coal transport causing traffic jams in certain periods of time, and ongoing construction work to upgrade national road 18A.

To reduce weaknesses in traffic safety, the city police have consulted with the city to increase education on traffic safety in residential areas, streets, schools and enterprises; dealing with remaining issues in construction; building the signpost and light system; and mobilising a larger number of traffic police at peak hours.

The city has asked the coal sector to rapidly complete the railway system to transport coal to facilitate the traffic system for roads and protect the environment.

Other sectors and unions have encouraged people to boost site clearance for building national road 18A, while the police have been asked to more firmly prevent traffic safety violations./.
