Vietnam - Japan friendship mangrove forest planting exchange

(CPV) - The Vietnam-Japan friendship mangrove forest planting exchange was held on September 7-9 in Dong Rui commune, Tien Yen district, Quang Ninh province.

The mangrove forest planting program for environmental protection, disaster prevention and climate change adaptation in Quang Ninh province has been supported by the Mangrove Ecosystem Research Department (MERD), the Centre for Natural Resources and Environmental Studies (CRES), Hanoi National University, and Japan’s Mangrove Restoration Action Organization (ACTMANG) from 2007 to 2013.

The program has planted 665ha of mangrove forest, including kandelia obovata, mangrove and sonneratia trees in communes of Vinh Trung, Hai Tien, Hai Dong of Mong Cai city; Yen Thanh ward of Uong Bi city; Dong Rui commune of Tien Yen district; and Ha An ward of Quang Yen town.

At the program, the CRES rewarded individuals and collectives for outstanding achievements in reforestation coordination and ecosystem restoration. This is one of the activities marking the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations, and preparations for the 4th phrase of the project from 2014-2018 funded by ACTMANG./.
