On September 9, a delegation of the National Cultural Heritage Council led by Prof. Dr. Sc. Luu Tran Tieu, the council president, had a working session with Quang Ninh province on the management, preservation and promotion of Ha Long bay’s world natural values.

Over the past time, the management board of Ha Long bay has coordinated with agencies to manage, preserve and promote value of Ha Long bay. In August 2013, the management board ensured safety for more than 1.6 million of arrivals to visit the bay. The turnover achieved nearly VND135 billion, increasing 10% in comparison with the last year, equalling 70% of the year’s plan.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Minh Chinh, Secretary of Quang Ninh provincial Party Committee, said that the province has always paid close attention to environmental protection, including the environment of Ha Long bay, through specific works and actions.

The province moved people living in fishing villages in Ha Long bay to come ashore, helping local people improve their lives and creating favourable conditions for the preservation and promotion of Ha Long bay heritage value. The province is implementing an automatic observation system and applying advanced strategies in waste treatment and bay environmental protection.

Mr. Chinh asked the National Cultural Heritage Council to consider and ask the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the government to promulgate special policies for the management, preservation and promotion of Ha Long bay, and complete the model structure for provincial, national and world heritage management bodies.

Prof. Dr. Sc. Luu Tran Tieu appreciated the province for the preservation and promotion of Ha Long bay heritage value. He hoped that in the future, the province will apply advanced measures to protect the environment in the bay and connect projects in the bay; and pay attention to the danger of conflict and imbalance between development and preservation in the bay./.
