On September 26, in Ha Long City, the northern province of Quang Ninh, the Interagency Coordinating Council (ICC) worked with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to hold a disability equality training course for disabled people and agencies relating to disabled people.

Statistics show that Vietnam has some 6.7 million disabled people, accounting for 7.8% of the population. Apart from difficulties resulting from their disabilities, they face obstacles in getting access to social services.

The training course provided general understanding about laws and policies relating to disabled people, the United Nations convention on the rights of people with disabilities, social community models, languages and integration ability for disabled people, and action plans for disabled people to integrate into communities.

The course also encouraged and assisted disabled people in integrating equally, and increased disabled people’s and society’s awareness on realising rights for disabled people./.
