The project was inaugurated in November 2012. So far, the line system on air and transformer from Cam Pha city to Van Yen commune, Van Don district and the whole network grid distributed on Co To island, invested by the Northern Power Corporation (NPC) has been completed. Meanwhile, the line system from Van Don district to Co To island, stretching 58.5 kilometres, including 25 kilometres of trans-ocean underground cable, has almost been completed.
According to Mr. Thong, apart from the VND1.106 trillion capital for the project, ministries, sectors, agencies and individuals have registered to assist the project with VND206 billion.
The total investment averages some VND200 million to access the national grid.
Earlier, the islanders got power mainly from generators with VND9,000 per unit, but they are assisted with 50-60% of the price for families who use less than 300 units per month. It is estimated that the assistance is worth VND11 billion per year./.
