(CPV) - After 50 years of construction and development, Van Don district has been changed, achieving development steps in all aspects. It has established the foundation to achieve new developments to become a special economic administrative zone.
In 2005, Van Don bridge was inaugurated, which has opened a new page in the development process of Van Don district. From a separated island from the mainland, after the bridge was put into operation, this island district has been able to connect with the economic centres of the province and country by roads.
Along with the investment and construction of the Van Don bridge, all remaining island communes in the district have wharfs, and commune-connecting roads are also upgraded.
The necessary infrastructure works, which are built and upgraded, are the platform for Van Don district to achieve robust growth in recent years.
From an island district without electricity, roads, schools, healthcare centres and having a 99% illiterate population, Van Don now has universalized the secondary education, the system of schools and healthcare centres is invested completely. The annual average economic growth rate reached over 15 %. The poverty rate is only about 5%. People's living standards have improved in all aspects.
With the target of bringing Van Don to become the driving force for economic development not only of Quang Ninh province but also of the country, Quang Ninh is attempting to realize the goal of building Van Don to become a special economic-administrative zone with the maximum preferential policies and modern management institutions with global competitive capacity. To reach this target, the district is actively preparing for the formation of the special economic-administrative zone in the coming time.
Over the past 50 years, Van Don has largely contributed to the common development of Quang Ninh province. With its development orientation, Van Don will certainly not only reach the new development level, but also become an important driving force in the transformation process of development and growth in Quang Ninh province and the country in the future./.
