Quang Ninh dedicates Mong Duong 2 Thermo Power Plant

The Quang Ninh People’s Committee has organised a dedication ceremony for the Mong Duong 2 Thermo Power Plant in Cam Pha city to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the province (October 30).
Construction of the Mong Duong 2 Thermo Power Plant kicked off in September, 2011. This is the largest private sector power project in Vietnam.
The coal-fired plant was built following the BOT (build – operate - transfer) model with total investment of USD2 billion sourced from the Mong Duong AES-VCM Electricity Company, Ltd, a joint venture of American Electric Supply, Inc. (AES), Posco Power Corporation of the Republic of Korea and the China Investment Corporation, with capital contributions of 51 percent, 30 percent and 19 percent, respectively.
According to the project management board, the project is currently 70 percent completed. The project will have an estimated capacity of 1,200MW and an annual output of 7.6 billion kWh when it becomes operational in 2015.
It will be transferred for Vietnamese government after 25 years of operation./.
