The People’s Committee of the northern province of Quang Ninh has issued a document asking members of the steering committee on the prevention of smuggling, fake goods and trade fraud across the province to increase vigilance against smuggling, trade fraud and unverified goods.

According to the steering committee, the province will focus on efforts in Mong Cai city. Accordingly, authorised agencies need to inspect markets, trade centres, border gate areas, the mainland and some other key areas.

The inspection is expected to focus on key types of goods which are consumed mainly at year-end, such as alcohol, beer, cigarette, electronic goods, poultry, animals, clothes and forbidden goods.

The provincial police are asked to increase the inspection and detect tricks that smugglers use to transport and trade fake and forbidden goods, and work with relevant agencies to put these smugglers to trial.

The province will also increase the inspections for the illegal transport, processing and consumption of coal, preventing illegal export of coal, minerals and oil and gas through border gates, and working with the marine police to control activities on sea routes.

The steering committee is also requested to build up a plan to destroy fake goods at the end of November./.
