Typhoon Haiyan damaged over 5,000 hectares of forests in northern province

The Bureau of Forestry under the Quang Ninh provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has said typhoon Haiyan caused serious losses to forestry companies and foresters, as it damaged over 5,000 hectares of forests.

Of which, over 2,200 hectares are in Ba Che district, over 1,000 hectares in Cam Pha City, over 400 hectares of the Tien Yen forestry limited company, and over 600 hectares in Van Don district.
The damaged forests are mainly production forests, with 3-4 year old pine. The damage has been estimated at over VND40 billion.
However, the Bureau of Forestry said that it was not the final statistics of damage, as surveys of the damaged areas are still being carried out. At present, it has asked localities and forestry companies to further inspect the areas to report the exact damages due to the storm./.
