While many localities are unsure of products to focus on when building trademarks, since February 2012, the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee has issued a program on building and developing the trademark for agricultural products and made a list of typical products, in order to confirm the trademarks for agricultural products, build up concentrated production regions, apply science and technology in agricultural production, and create sustainable development methods for farmers and enterprises.
According to industry and trade newspaper, the province has prepared hundreds of billions of VND to develop some 30 agricultural product trademarks by 2015.
Pham Ngoc Thuy, Deputy Head of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade, said that the building of trademarks is bringing remarkable results. Many products have become common presents for tourists when coming to Quang Ninh province, including Ha Long chopped cuttle-fish, Ba Kich alcohol, and Binh Lieu vermicelli made of phrynium. In addition, Quang Ninh province has worked with the supermarket system to bring these products to be sold at supermarkets across the country.
So far, the profiles of 21 products have been submitted to the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam for trademark registration, and 6 of which have been granted right certificates./.
