To ensure the image of Ha Long bay as a friendly and safe destination, waterway traffic safety programmes have been actively implemented in recent years.
Currently, more than 460 vessels transport passengers on Halong bay, of which 156 stay overnight on the bay. To ensure waterway traffic safety, the agencies have tightened registration standards and inspection for ships, regularly checking safety conditions and not allowing substandard ships to sail.
Besides, captains and crew members on the ship are regularly trained and fully equipped with skills for rescue at sea, to be ready at any time if an incident occurs.
Mr. Zhang Ming Hui, leading a Chinese tourist delegation to visit Ha Long bay, said that right after board the ship, staff members showed them how to use lifebuoys and safety equipment. Therefore, the group felt safe when sightseeing and enjoying the landscapes on the bay.
In 2013, to ensure waterway transportation order and safety and to prevent accidents at sea, Quang Ninh waterway police deployed eight safety campaigns to deal with waterway traffic safety with more than 3,000 patrols. At the same time, 32 programs have been organized teaching waterway transport laws to boat owners, captains and crew members.
Each year, the number of tourists to Ha Long bay is increasing, more and more new services are opened to attract visitors. Therefore, ensuring transportation safety at sea needs further attention so that Ha Long bay is always known as a friendly, safe destination, deserving its place among the world's natural wonders./.
