VND2.2 billion in assistance for storm affected families

The Quang Ninh provincial Fatherland Front and rescue board has earmarked VND2.2 billion from the provincial rescue fund to support families whose houses were destroyed due to typhoon Haiyan.

The assistance has been given to 88 families in Ba Che, Tien Yen and Van Don districts and Ha Long city with VND25 million each.
The assistance aims to help people promptly stabilise their lives as the lunar New Year festival approaches.
Typhoon Haiyan, landing in Quang Ninh province on November 10 with very strong wind, caused serious damage in numerous districts, towns and cities. Statistics showed that it destroyed 88 houses, unroofed 2,347 and inundated 1,079 others; sank or damaged 90 ships and boats and 230 aquaculture cages; brought down 8 antenna towers and 75 electricity poles; and damaged 8,000 metres of electricity and cable lines.
In 2013, the provincial Fatherland Front and rescue board has also spent over VND1.2 billion supporting people in central provinces affected by storms, people in the northern province of Lao Cai affected by landslides and business families in Hai Ha markets affected by fire./.
