Over the past time, the Quang Ninh provincial Customs Department has discovered and seized many types of poultry and wild animals illegally imported in large quantities.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, on the night of November 20, 2013, the Customs Control Team No. 1 under the Quang Ninh Customs Department discovered and impounded 127 turtles (about 157kg). However, the owner of the goods has not been determined. Of these, eight turtles are endangered and rare species.
The team has handed over all documents and exhibits to the Mong Cai Forest Management to deal with as prescribed.
Then, on the afternoon of November 23, 2013, the Customs Control Team No. 1 seized 215 coots and 109 bitterns which have not been detoxified, whose owners are in Hai Hoa ward, in Mong Cai city.
The team has cooperated with relative agencies to cull them.
The Customs Control Team No. 1 said that in the remaining months of 2013, the anti-smuggling work will be enhanced strongly, because in the area managed by the team, illegal import continues of consumer goods, including food, poultry, enamelled tile, rare and wild animals, particularly, the illegal import of bad quality food such as snacks and sausages has increased./.
