Northern district supports women in poverty reduction and environmental protection

In 2013, the Hai Ha district Women’s Union of the northern province of Quang Ninh has carried out diverse practical activities to assist its members in developing their domestic economy, contributing to reducing poverty in the district.

The district Women’s Union has worked with the district Bank for Social Policies to help 3,370 members access loans for economic development, with an outstanding balance of over VND71 billion, which has created conditions for hundreds of members to escape poverty and earn profits.

The union has also coordinated with the district Department of Agricultural and Rural Development and the district agricultural encouragement stations to open 5 courses to teach 450 members science and technology about caring for plants and animals, and the prevention of diseases among poultry and animals. In addition, a training course on poultry and animal raising has also been organised in Quang Dien commune.

As a result, advanced science and technology have been applied in production, creating high economic value models, including planting safe vegetables, producing mushrooms, planting sugarcane, and raising fish.

The union has also encouraged its members to join environmental protection campaigns, with 6,150 members participating in 205 working days on environmental protection./.
