Tet is a chance for overseas Vietnamese to reunite

For Vietnamese people, the traditional Lunar New Year Festival (Tet) not only has an important significance but it is also a chance to reunite with family. On this occasion, Vietnamese people everywhere always look toward the homeland, and Overseas Vietnamese (OV) from Quang Ninh province are the same.
When returning Quang Ninh province, a part from family and homeland sentiment, prosperity in their birth place makes many overseas Vietnamese honour.
Quang Ninh province has 7,350 OV living and working in 38 nations and territories in the world. This year, the number of OV welcoming Tet in Quang Ninh province increase 30% compared to the previous year.
In spite of living far from the homeland, most of them are always looking toward the homeland.
“Our country is changing very much, its development is unexpected. The living standard of local people is also further improved. We also want to contribute a small part to the development of the province,” shared Ms. Tran Thi Hue, an OV in Canada.
With the desire to contribute their strength to the socio-economic development of the province, over the past years, OV in Quang Ninh province have united and joined hands in many activities toward the homeland.
In 2013 alone, the amount of remittances sent to Quang Ninh province was USD50 million. Many OV act as bridges to help foreign enterprises invest in Quang Ninh province, contributing to creating jobs and stable incomes for employees. Many OVs have actively participated in charitable and humanitarian activities such as presenting warm blankets to poor people in districts of Tien Yen, Ba Che; valuable gifts to children whose families are in special circumstances and policy beneficiary families.
Quang Ninh province has always determined that OV in general, and expatriates from Quang Ninh province in particular, are an integral part. The expatriate community from Quang Ninh province has become a bridge to contribute to promoting the friendly relations between Vietnam and local countries.
Over the past years, Quang Ninh province has always implemented works for OV well and encourage them to execute guidelines and policies of the Party and State; contributing their efforts and resources to strengthen Quang Ninh province and the country./.
