Ha Long cherry blossom festival 2015 opens

The Ha Long cherry blossom festival 2015 titled “Peace – Prosperity – Cooperation and Development” opened on April 2nd in Ha Long city in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The event will be organised by the Ha Long city People’s Committee in collaboration with Japan’s Wanokai International Culture Association to promote cultural exchange, friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

As many of 12 students from the Northeast of Japan who suffered from the earthquake and tsunami of four years ago. At that time, people from Quang Ninh province and Vietnam shared difficulties with Japanese people. These children presented cherry trees to children in Quang Ninh province to show their gratitude to the Vietnamese people for their support.

Visitors to the festival enjoyed special art performances of the two countries and fashion show of Vietnamese and Japanese traditional clothes.

500 cherry branches were imported from Japan to make two big trees. In addition, 16 cherry trees were transported from Sa Pa and Da Lat. There were also five silk cherry trees.

During the festival, diverse cultural activities, including exhibitions featuring culture, tourism and cuisine from Vietnam and Japan, film screenings, workshops on health care, education and the environment, and art performances will be held.

The festival will run until April 5th.
