Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark to receive UNESCO recognition on November 24th

A ceremony to receive the UNESCO Global Network of National Geoparks title for Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark will be held on November 24th, at the Uncle Ho Statue in the centre of Cao Bang city.

The information was released in a press conference hosted by the Cao Bang People’s Committee on November 6th.

The UNESCO title is awarded to single, unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are rich in scientific, educational, aesthetic, archaeological, historical, social and cultural values, as well as biological diversity.

Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark was established in 2015 and was submitted to UNESCO for recognition in November 2016. It is the second Vietnamese Global Geopark, after Dong Van Karst Plateau in Ha Giang province in December 2010, to be recognized.

It is located in the north of Vietnam, 300km from Hanoi, and has an area of more than 3,000 km2. It includes 6 districts: Ha Quang, Tra Linh, Quang Uyen, Trung Khanh, Ha Lang, Phuc Hoa and part of 3 other districts: Hoa An, Binh Nguyen and Thach An. This is home to different ethnic groups, including Tay, Nung, Mong, Kinh, Dao, San Chay and more.

On this occasion, Cao Bang will organize Non Nuoc Cao Bang culture, sports and tourism week with an array of activities such as a photo exhibition on the land and people of northern Vietnam from November 23rd to 26th, folk performances and folk costumes performances of six northern provinces on November 25th, sport competitions from November 22nd to 24th, and cuisine introduction from November 23rd to 26th. The event will close on November 27th.

On November 25th, the province will also host a promotion conference for investment, trade and tourism in order to introduce socio-economic situation, assess cooperative opportunities for trade, tourism and economic development, and seek connection with new economic corridors of western and southwestern provinces of China./.
