This is the main goal of the Master Plan for tourism development of the Mekong Delta by 2020, with a vision to 2030; adopted by the Government in November 2016.

Accordingly, total tourism revenue will reach about VND25 trillion by 2020 and VND111 trillion by 2030.

For accommodation establishments, by 2020, the region will have about 53,000 hotel rooms, of which three to five-star hotel rooms account for about 15%. By 2030, it strives to have about 100,000 hotel rooms, 30% of which will be three to five-star hotels.

By 2020, the delta will create jobs for about 230,000 employees by 2020, including 77,000 direct workers. By 2030, about 450,000 workers will be offered jobs, including 150,000 direct workers.

Under the master plan, Mekong Delta tourism is divided into two clusters. The eastern cluster includes Dong Thap, Long An, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long and Ben Tre provinces, while the western cluster include Can Tho city, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Soc Trang, An Giang, Hau Giang and Kien Giang provinces.

The region now has 42 typical delta-level tourist sites and 12 under construction, with about 53,000 hotels, of which 15% are three-star hotels or higher.

Total tourism turnover was estimated at VND24 trillion in 2018, a year-on-year rise of 34%./.
