169 programs and events to be held throughout Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024

Visit Vietnam Year 2024, themed “Glory of Dien Bien Phu - Endless Experience”, will include 169 major events taking place across provinces and cities nationwide.

During the press conference on the afternoon of January 21, a representative of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that Dien Bien was the locality chosen to host the Visit Vietnam Year 2024.

The opening and closing ceremonies have the theme “Glory of Dien Bien Phu - Endless Experience”, associated with the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954-May 7, 2024). Over the past 19 years, each year, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will choose a province to host the organization.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy said that there will be 169 programs and events throughout the year, comprising 13 national ones to be held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other agencies, 28 by host Dien Bien province, and 128 by 33 other provinces and centrally-run cities.

The highlight of the event is the opening ceremony associated with the Ban Flower Festival taking place on March 16 at May 7 Square, Dien Bien Phu city; art program and high-altitude fireworks display on the evening of May 6; and celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory on the morning of May 7.

The Visit Vietnam Year – Dien Bien 2024 is expected to contribute socio-economic development and prosperity of Dien Bien, creating conditions to attract human resources to invest in building new products, and create motivation for tourism development in the following years, said Deputy Director of the National Tourism Authority Ha Van Sieu.

Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dien Bien province Vu A Bang said the locality expects to welcome 1.3 million tourists this year, and earn some 2.2 trillion VND (89.66 million USD) from tourism.

In 2023, Dien Bien served a record number of more than 1 million visitors, up nearly 25% year-on-year, surpassing the yearly plan by 7%, with 7,500 international holidaymakers, according to the official./.
