Introducing tourism and cinema potential

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that the program will take place from September 23 - 25, 2024 in San Francisco and Los Angeles, California, the US, with the theme of “Vietnam - New Destination of World Cinema.”

The program is attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, representatives of several provinces and cities, representatives of the Department of Tourism, Department of Culture and Sports, local Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, tourism businesses and film businesses.

As planned, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will organize a photo exhibition introducing nature, landscape, history, culture, UNESCO heritage, Vietnamese people; destinations, tourism products and services; and potential film settings, on September 25, 2024, at the DGA (Directors Guild of America) Theater, Beverly Hills, Los Angeles (California, the US).

About 100 typical photos, with artistic quality and attractiveness to foreign tourists, will be displayed in this space. The Vietnamese delegation will visit, work and exchange with Google to promote cooperation communication and promotion of Vietnamese tourism and cinema.

On the same day, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will also organize a workshop to introduce the potential of tourism and cinema in Vietnam with the participation of about 400-500 delegates.

Soft-power diplomacy tools

The film industry is not just about entertainment, it is also a powerful tool for telling stories about indigenous cultures and images of heritage and identity. And through the lens of the camera, filmmakers can capture the spirit of a nation to convey to the world. As the US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Evans Knapper said, films are a powerful tool of soft power diplomacy and cultural exchange, bridging cultural differences and further strengthening personal and national connections.

“Through events such as the Vietnam Film and Tourism Promotion Program, we hope and encourage more American filmmakers to come and choose Vietnam as a destination for filming, thereby contributing to discovering iconic locations that can become tourist destinations sought after by international visitors, generating revenue for local businesses,” the ambassador said.

The US diplomatic mission in Vietnam is always ready to support the expansion of cooperation in the field of cinema and other creative industries,” he emphasized.

Every international filmmaker to Vietnam can contribute to discovering iconic locations that can become tourist destinations sought after by international visitors, generating revenue for local businesses.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said: “We believe that through films filmed in Vietnam, international audiences will not only have the opportunity to experience the beauty of the nature, culture and people of Vietnam in the most vivid and intimate way, but also promote the demand of visiting and travelling./.”
