In 2024, the northwestern mountainous province of Dien Bien hosts the National Tourism Year and strives to welcome 1.3 million visitors with a total revenue of about 2,200 billion VND.

According to the Tourism Management Office under the Dien Bien Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, during the Tet holiday, the number of visitors to Dien Bien increased sharply compared to the same period in 2023 while the duration of stay of tourists increased significantly. This is considered a happy and prosperous sign for the Tourism Year of Dien Bien.
Mr. Pham Van Thang, Head of the Tourism Management Office, said that from February 8 to 18, the number of tourists in the province increased 3.8 times compared to the same period in 2023. Of which, tourists arrivals during the 2024 Lunar New Year (Tet) holidays reached nearly 84,000.
Notably, tourists staying overnight reached nearly 23,000; room occupancy rate at accommodation establishments averages more than 40%. Total revenue from tourism activities reached nearly 150 billion VND, an increase of 3.84 times compared to the same period in 2023.
Typically, the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum and relics of the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield complex received nearly 8,000 visitors.
According Thang, to continue attracting tourists, from now until the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the provincial People’s Committee has issued and implemented many plans such as carrying out cooperative activities to develop tourism in the 8 expanded Northwestern provinces (including Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Dien Bien, Ha Giang, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Son La and Yen Bai) and Ho Chi Minh City in 2024; and plan to organize popularization activities about the opening ceremony of National Tourism Year - Dien Bien and Hoa Ban Festival 2024./.
