| HCM City to pilot Chợ Lớn Night Street |
Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City People’s Committee has just directed the pilot implementation of the Chợ Lớn Night Street Project to promote tourism development in District 6. This project was approved according to the proposal of the Department of Industry and Trade, with the goal of developing regional tourism, taking advantage of the cultural and commercial potential of Chợ Lớn.
Vice Chairwoman of the District 6 People’s Committee, Vuong Thanh Lieu, said that the project takes Binh Tay Market, a city-level architectural work of art, as a highlight. The further goal of the project is to connect the Chợ Lớn Night Street with tourist clusters in District 11 and District 5 such as Ha Ton Quyen dumpling street, Hai Thuong Lan Ong street and Chau Van Liem street, to create a large tourist area, contributing to economic development and attracting tourists.
The Chợ Lớn Night Street is expected to exploit the sidewalk space of four streets surrounding Binh Tay Market, including Nguyen Huu Than, Thap Muoi, Le Tan Ke, and Tran Binh. It will cover about 1,510m², divided into seven functional zones with 41 stalls. The night market will operate from 18:00 to midnight every day, serving the entertainment and shopping needs of residents and tourists.
In addition to food and shopping stalls, the night market area will also be equipped with food trucks, mini handcarts, parking lots, performance stages, public toilets, and miniature landscapes and artistic lighting to create a community space.
The southern city hopes the pilot plan will not only promote local economic development but also create a cultural highlight, attracting domestic and foreign tourists./.
