It was estimated that the total number of international tourists to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2024 nearly doubled compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, reflecting a 1.9-fold growth compared to the same period in 2023, according to statistics from the General Statistics Office.

In addition, the average spending of international tourists also increased by 13%, showing that they were willing to spend more on experiences and tourism activities.

The top five key markets sending international tourists to Vietnam included the Republic of Korea, Taiwan (China), Singapore, Hong Kong (China) and the Philippines. These large and familiar markets continued to play an important role in Vietnam's tourism industry.

However, the most impressive growth came from emerging markets. According to the Klook platform, the number of Indonesian tourists led the way with an 8-fold growth in tourism demand to Vietnam compared to the same period last year.

The growth of domestic tourists is considered the main trend of tourism this year. The report of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration also noted that in the first quarter, nearby markets in Southeast Asia grew well, including Malaysia (+24.6%), Singapore (+8.6%), Cambodia (+19.1%), the Philippines (+52.6%) and Indonesia (+118.5%).

According to businesses, the Indonesian market is always considered the largest in Southeast Asia, with the 4th largest population in the world. This is a potential market to attract tourists and promote trade.

Recently, Vietnamese localities such as Da Nang and Nha Trang have run promotion programs, introducing accommodation infrastructure, promoting direct flights, and equipping restaurants with Halal dishes, arranging prayer rooms, and increasing amenities for Muslim tourists on their journey to explore Vietnam.

Da Nang, Ha Long, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc and Hanoi are the destinations most chosen by international tourists on the Klook platform. Notably, Phu Quoc witnessed the most outstanding growth with demand skyrocketing 3.5 times over the same period in 2023. Hanoi followed with a growth of nearly 3 times.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huy Hoang, Managing Director of Klook Vietnam, international tourists are drawn by attractive and famous tourist sites and domestic tours, including parks and entertainment complexes./.
