The number of tourists from Vietnam to Australia has increased significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a press release from the Office of the Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism.

As of August 2024, nearly 178,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Australia in the past 12 months.

Tourism is an important part of Australia’s firm cooperation with fast-growing economies in Southeast Asia. Since the announcement of “Invested: Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040”, the country has increased and promoted many activities across the region.

For Vietnam, tourism is considered a field which has reaped many practical results after cooperative efforts with Australia.

The cooperation between the Vietnamese and Australian governments has brought benefits to both countries. Vietnam has become Australia's fastest growing international market. The number of visitors from Australia to the country is also higher than before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell said that promoting tourism between Australia and Vietnam was the main discussion topic when he came to Vietnam to attend the Vietnam-Australia Economic Partnership Ministerial Meeting.

Meanwhile, from the plan to organize tourism promotion activities in 2024 developed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the country also identified Australia as one of its key markets, along with Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, China, the UK, and the ASEAN regions, North America and Europe.

After a series of recent promotional programs in Australia, in the context of the increasingly expanding flight network connecting the two countries, the number of Australian visitors to Vietnam has also grown strongly. Thus, Vietnam is not only a potential source of visitors but also an interesting tourist destination for Australians./.
