Over 870,000 visitors flock to Southern Folk Cake Festival

The 11th Southern Folk Cake Festival has attracted more than 870,000 visitors to experience culinary culture, contributing to promoting the development of Can Tho’s service industries.

After five days with many exciting activities, the 11th Southern Folk Cake Festival ended on April 21.

Ms. Dao Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho city, said that the festival has attracted more than 870,000 visitors, experiencing culinary culture, contributing to promoting the development of Can Tho’s service industries.

In addition to traditional activities of offering cakes at King Hung Temple in Can Tho city, the Folk Cake Contest and folk cake stalls, this year’s festival also included new activities, attracting numerous visitors, such as showing the Banh Xeo fashion set by Designer Nguyen Minh Cong; demonstration and free reception of giant 3m diameter pancakes with the participation of 15 artisans; and space to introduce the 100-year old rice paper making of Thuan Hung rice paper craft village.

Aiming to honor the artisans who actively participated, created, and enhanced the value and appeal of Southern folk cakes, the Jury of the Southern Folk Cake Contest awarded A prizes for 16 excellent individuals, 28 B prizes and 7 Content prizes.

The organizers also awarded Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the City People’s Committee to 22 artisan troupes from provinces and cities: Hau Giang, Tien Giang, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Ben Tre, An Giang, Dong Nai, Binh Thuan, Tay Ninh, Thua Thien-Hue, Ho Chi Minh City and 9 districts of Can Tho city.

The 11th Southern Folk Cake Festival 2024 took place from April 17-21, 2024, with more than 200 booths displaying folk cake, food, OCOP and regional specialties. At the same time, the festival attracted more than 100 artisans from all over the country to compete and demonstrate making folk cakes./.
