The move is part of measures to promote tourism and encourage longer stays.
The Thai Prime Minister has decided to sign and approve the list of Vietnam and 89 other countries whose citizens temporarily entering Thailand, can enjoy a 60-day stay policy without having to apply for a visa before the trip.
In addition to traveling, citizens of these 90 countries can also enter Thailand to work or have short-term business contacts in some occupations according to Thai regulations.
Guests arriving from visa-exempt countries can also obtain a 30-day extension when necessary. However, their purpose of stay must be different from the first one and this must be accepted by relevant Thai authorities.
The decision took effect on July 15.
Statistics from the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports show that more than 1 million Vietnamese tourists visited Thailand in 2023, making it the 7th largest market sending tourists to Thailand. Vietnam ranked second, after Malaysia in ASEAN, with citizens to Thailand.
Vietnamese tourists travelled to Thailand for many purposes such as new experiences, relaxation, medical treatment, ecology or cultural, historical and spiritual tourism./.
