Speaking at a recent tourism promotion conference in Hanoi, Ambassador of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam Wang Quan emphasized that strengthening tourism exchanges and cooperation is an important way to promote cultural exchange between the two countries.

Also at this event, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) Ha Van Sieu affirmed that the Vietnamese side is committed to continuing to promote cooperation and cultural tourism exchanges with China, and is ready to create favorable conditions for people of the two countries to explore each other’s scenic landscapes through tourism.

According to data from the VNAT, in May, Chinese visitor arrivals to Vietnam reached 357,000, returning to the No. 1 position for the first time in many years, surpassing the Republic of Korea as the top market sending tourists to Vietnam. In the first five months of the year, Vietnam welcomed 1.6 million Chinese visitor arrivals, recording an impressive increase of 402.3% over the same period last year.

Data from leading online travel companies in the country shows that the number of international tour bookings by Chinese tourists has increased sharply. According to travel platform Qunar, Vietnam is among the top 10 destinations for the May 1 holiday of Chinese people.

Data cited by Global Times from Trip.com Group showed that Vietnam is one of the most attractive foreign destinations for Chinese tourists during the upcoming national day holiday (October 1).

Also according to ForwardKeys data and bookings on online travel websites cited by Bloomberg, Vietnam is one of Asia’s top destinations for Chinese tourists in the summer of 2024.

Mr. Vu Tien Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei (China), said that in the first five months of 2024, Vietnam welcomed nearly 530,000 visitors from Taiwan (China), an increase of 110.1% compared to the same period last year, of which about 45% of tourists went to tourist destinations in the Central region such as Hue, Hoi An and Da Nang.

Also according to Mr. Dung, the number of Vietnamese tourists choosing Taiwan (China) as their favorite tourist destination is also increasing. “We believe that the number of tourists traveling between the two sides this year will exceed the peak of the pre-pandemic period,” he added.

After more than one year since China reopened its borders following the epidemic, the country regained its throne as the largest market sending international visitors to Vietnam. Thanks to the joint efforts of the governments of Vietnam and China, along with the attractiveness of the destination and tourism products, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Vietnam promises to continue to increase in the coming years./.
