“Endless beauty” of the heroic land
Dien Bien is a mountainous border province in the Northwestern region of the country, with a natural area of 9,541.25km2. It is the only province that shares a border with two countries: Laos and China with more than 455km, of which the border with Laos is 414,712km while that with China is 40.86km.

The province is home to 19 ethnic groups (Thai; Mong; Kinh; Dao; Kho Mu; Ha Nhi; Lao; Hoa (Han); Khang; Muong; Cong; Xi Mun; Si La; Nung; Phu La; Tho; Tay; San Chay and other ethnic groups). Each ethnic group has its own unique features in language, customs and culture, creating a colorful picture of Dien Bien.
Dien Bien is rich in tourism potential, especially in the field of culture and history. The most prominent is the Dien Bien Phu Victory Historical Relics system including the Dien Bien Phu-Muong Phang Campaign Command Headquarters; Him Lam, Ban Keo, Doc Doc bases; and A1, C1, D1, E1 hills.
Besides, there are many caves, mineral water sources and lakes that create rich natural tourism resources, such as Muong Nhe Primeval Forest; caves at Pa Thom (Dien Bien), Tham Pua (Tuan Giao); Hua Pe and U Va hot mineral springs; and Pa Khoang and Pe Luong lakes.
With the theme “Glory of Dien Bien Phu - Endless Beauty”, Dien Bien hopes to attract local people and domestic and international tourists to the glorious historical land.
“Nudge” from Visit Vietnam Year
Visit Vietnam Year – Dien Bien 2024 has 169 national and provincial level events with the participation of 33 provinces and cities, thereby introducing the beauty of Vietnamese culture and people in a profound way. The province presides over the organization of 28 unique and attractive programs, events and festivals on an inter-provincial, national and international scale.
In addition, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and central agencies organized 13 national-level activities. Provinces and cities organized 128 events, programs and festivals to respond to the Visit Vietnam Year – Dien Bien 2024.

In particular, the opening ceremony of the Visit Vietnam Year – Dien Bien 2024 took place on March 16, associated with the opening of the Hoa ban Festival, a unique traditional cultural festival of the locality.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed that the theme of the Visit Vietnam Year 2024 - Glorious Dien Bien Phu - Infinite Experiences – was built upon the heroic resonance of the victory, along with the majestic nature of the borderland region and the iconic image of the Ban flower, which leaves a strong imprint in the cultural and spiritual life of the community in the northwestern region, is the symbol of eternal love, showing their dream of everlasting happiness.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Phu, Director of the Dien Bien Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the province has tourism products targeting three main pillars. The first is historical-spiritual tourism. The famous Dien Bien Phu battlefield that “resounded across the five continents and shook the globe”, with a system of martyrs’ temples at the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, Hoang Cong Chat temple, national cemeteries where tourists can pay their respects into the heroic land of Dien Bien.
The second is the cultural identity of 19 ethnic groups in the area. The province has highland cultural spaces for people to experience. Typically, from the Ba Khoang lake bed area to the westernmost tip of the country, A Pa Chai, visitors can admire the majestic nature.
The third is community tourism products associated with relaxation and health care.
With these unique potentials and advantages, Dien Bien tourism industry has many opportunities for sustainable development. The locality has become an attractive tourist destination of the Northwestern region and the whole country, and is a place to teach the young generation revolutionary traditions./.
