More than 50 Vietnamese businesses have attended a conference to promote investment in Laos’ Champasak province.

They were told by the Deputy Governor of Champasak province, Vongsongkhone on August 24 that the local economy keeps growing at 10 percent with the average annual per capita income of US$1.200.

Champasak, he said, urgently needs Vietnamese investment in the area of food production and processing, building material production and tourism services.

Vietnam currently has 37 projects in Champasak with a total capitalization of more than US$217 million, including US$1 billion from two enterprises in Dong Nai alone.

Two-way trade between Vietnam and Laos reached US$734 million in 2011 and is expected to hit US$1 billion in 2012 and US$2 billion in 2015./.
