Currently, the country’s cashew area covers about 300,000 hectares, with the majority of the area planted in Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

The Association forecast the volume of raw cashew needed for export processing will be 550,000 tons. However, complicated climate changes mean this year’s cashew output is expected to only reach 300,000 tons, a 150,000 ton decrease from last year or 250,000 ton lower than the initial plan.

Aiming to achieve the set export target, domestic cashew processors plan to import 200,000 tons of raw cashew to process for exports.

The Vietnam Cashew Association warned enterprises to instruct farmers on intensive cultivation of cashew; graft and renovate old cashew gardens to improve the quality of cashew nuts; and intensify cooperation, production and connection among the state, scientists, enterprises and farmers to create stable material areas domestically and expand exports./.
