China remains Vietnam’s largest trading partner, accounting for 24.6% of the country’s total import-export turnover by the end of September 2023.

According to preliminary statistics by the General Department of Customs, in September 2023, Vietnam’s exports to China reached 6.25 billion USD, an increase of 8.1% compared to the previous month and an increase of nearly 11.8% over the same period last year.

Fruits and vegetables continued to be one of the impressive export groups to the Chinese market with a turnover of 491.2 million USD, up 84.5% over the previous month and up to 441% over the same period in 2022.

By the end of September, exports to China reached 42.86 billion USD, up 3.6% year on year. In the 9 months, Vietnam saw 10 groups of export goods to the market with export value of more than 1 billion USD. Among them, phones of all types and components took the lead with 10.9 billion USD; computers, electronic products and components with 10 billion USD; and fruits and vegetables with 2.75 billion USD.

Meanwhile, import turnover from China in the 9 months reached 79.2 billion USD, down 12.38 billion USD compared to the same period last year.

Two product groups had turnover of 10 billion USD or more, including computers, electronic products and components, 16.6 billion USD; and machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts, 16.2 billion USD.

Twelve other product groups with a turnover of 1 billion USD or more include: fabric; phones of all types and accessories; iron and steel; products from plastic; raw materials for textiles, garments, leather, and shoes.

Thus, over the past 9 months, the total import-export turnover between Vietnam and China reached 122.06 billion USD, of which Vietnam’s trade deficit was 36.34 billion USD./.
