In the first 6 months, the country’s exports to ASEAN markets reached 13.9 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 28.2%. The ASEAN market accounted for 8.8% of the country’s total export turnover, larger than the Republic of Korea (6.5%) and Japan (6.4%).

Meanwhile, imports recorded higher growth. Specifically, import turnover from the markets reached 21.2 billion USD during the period, a year-on-year rise of 50.5%, accounting for 13.3% of the country’s total.

Notably, the two largest automobile import markets of Vietnam in recent years have been Thailand and Indonesia.

Vietnam had a trade deficit with most countries in ASEAN. However, the Philippines alone enjoyed a trade surplus of more than 1 billion USD. The country mainly exported rice to the market with an output of nearly 1.1 million tons, valued at nearly 580 million USD./.
