E-commerce likely to grow 20% in 2024

The growth of the B2C e-commerce market reached 18-20% in the first 10 months of 2024, completing the target assigned by the Government, according to a report of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

According to the Ministry, so far, 116 foreign suppliers have registered and fulfilled their tax obligations through the electronic information portal with a total budget revenue of up to 19,774 billion VND.

The world’s leading electronics companies such as Google, Meta, Microsoft, TikTok, Netflix and Apple have made significant contributions with direct revenue declared through the information portal this year with 8,687 billion VND, an increase of 26% over the same period last year.

In addition, in the past 11 months, organizations and individuals with e-commerce business activities have paid about 108,000 billion VND in taxes, an increase of 22%.

Despite facing many challenges from the global economy, Vietnam's e-commerce still recorded a growth rate of 25% in 2023, the market size has reached 20.5 billion USD and is expected to continue to increase to 25 billion USD this year.

Aiming to strongly promote the development of commercial infrastructure, especially e-commerce, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has proactively coordinated with ministries, branches, localities and enterprises to develop and implement criteria and standards.

The ministry will proactively submit to the Government an e-commerce development plan in the new phase, while strengthening coordination with ministries and branches to create a safe, transparent and sustainable e-commerce environment.

In addition, this agency will promote communication activities and support businesses and consumers to promote the digital economy and enhance the position of Vietnamese goods in the international market./.
