(CPV) - Green consumption is becoming a trend in many countries around the world, especially popular in developed countries, and is spreading strongly to developing countries with average incomes and above.
Green consumption is becoming a trend in many countries around the world.

In Vietnam, green consumption is one of the important contents in the National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. Therefore, green consumption is increasingly receiving more attention, along with activities related to the process of sustainable production and consumption for the environment.

Current green consumption trends in Vietnam

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the demand for green products in Vietnam grew by an average of 15% per year in the period 2021 - 2023. 72% of Vietnamese consumers are willing to pay more for green products, showing people's increasing awareness and concern for environmental protection.

This is reflected in the popularity of green products across different product categories. Euromonitor's report shows that the organic food market in Vietnam will reach a value of 100 million USD by 2023, growing by 20% compared to 2020. Sales of biological cleaning products will increase by 15% in 2022 compared to 2021.

The sustainable fashion industry in Vietnam will also attract more than 1 million consumers in 2023. Surveys also show that Vietnamese consumers increasingly trust products labeled "green". According to Nielsen, 60% of Vietnamese consumers trust these products, and 55% of consumers are willing to change their consumption habits to protect the environment.

Some solutions to promote green consumption trends

Although green consumption brings many benefits to investors and the living environment, there are still many difficulties and obstacles for green products to completely replace conventional consumer products that cause pollution, especially for a developing country like Vietnam. To move towards a sustainable development model, there must be synchronous solutions and efforts from manufacturers, suppliers and consumers. The mechanisms, policies and support programs of functional agencies and localities must be appropriate and encourage green production and consumption.

One of the most necessary things now is that the State must build and perfect the legal framework on green consumption to ensure consistency, synchronization and transparency. It is necessary to identify key industries and fields with potential for development; first of all, Vietnamese goods that are strong.

At the same time, there must be policies to encourage the development of industries and sectors that apply clean technology, promote green production, develop and replicate green business models, support prices for green products and services, and increase marketing and promotion to stimulate consumption of these products. Promote the benefits of green products and services as well as the benefits of environmental protection to the community, consumers and producers to attract consumption of green products and raise awareness of green consumption; create a close relationship between green manufacturers, green products and "green" consumers.

Another important issue is to closely monitor product quality, take strict measures against counterfeiting, poor quality goods, and goods of unknown origin, thereby creating trust among consumers, while improving the effectiveness of consumer protection work./.
