On May 15, the inauguration and handover ceremony of Nong Khang Airport officially took place in Hua-Phan, on the occasion of the 133rd birthday of the great President Ho Chi Minh.
The Nong Khang Airport is one of the key projects that the senior leaders of the two Parties and States pay special attention to and closely direct to complete. This is an important project, contributing to improving and modernizing the transport infrastructure, and promoting the socio-economic development of Laos in general and Hua Phan province in particular.
Determining the strategic role of Nong Khang Airport in the economic development of Hua Phan province in particular and the Northeast-Northern region of Laos in general, helping to quickly connect the region with the capital Vientiane, as well as promoting Vietnam – Laos trade, the Laos Civil Aviation Administration approved investment in the project in January 2013, with 100% capital from Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company (Vietnam).
Therefore, speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong also highly appreciated the fact that Hoang Anh Gia Lai International Agriculture Joint Stock Company completed construction and handed over to the Lao Government a key transport project, contributing to embellishing the great and traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. Ngam Pa Song Muong Mani, Minister of Transport and Public Works of Laos said that the project helps to transform Laos from a landlocked country into an integrated country of the region and the world in general.
Speaking at the event, Secretary of the Party Committee and Governor of Hua Phan province Vanxay Pheng-summa emphasized that the inauguration of Nong Khang Airport is an important milestone for the cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. The project is long-awaited by the Hua Phan people, promoting trade and socio-economic development of the province in particular and Laos in general.
Mr. Tran Bao Son, General Director of Hoang Anh Gia Lai International Agriculture Joint Stock Company, said that as the company was aware of the importance of Nong Khang Airport, THACO and the company sent a professional, highly qualified project management apparatus to ensure the quality, safety and art of the works. When completed, the Nong Khang Airport will have a capacity of serving 100,000 passengers per year.
Nong Khang Airport project was built on a total land area of 249.6 hectares with the total investment of USD82 million./.
