Tea exports to Chinese market enjoy sharp increase

Tea exports to the Chinese market increased sharply by 245.6% in volume and 108.8% in value compared to the same period in 2023.

According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s tea exports in September 2024 reached 13,090 tons, worth 23.12 million USD, down 15.9% in volume and down 21.2% in value compared to August 2024; but up 21.3% in volume and up 22.5% in value compared to September 2023. The average export price of tea this month reached 1,766 USD per ton, down 6.2% compared to August 2024, but up 0.9% compared to September 2023.

In the first nine months of 2024, Vietnam’s tea exports reached 105,840 tons, worth 185.65 million USD, up 29.5% in volume and 31.9% in value compared to the same period in 2023. The average export price of tea in the first nine months of 2024 reached 1,754 USD per ton, up 1.8% over the same period last year.

This month, tea exports to some markets increased compared to September 2023, such as: Pakistan, up 30.8% in volume and 40.5% in value; China, up 387.9% in volume and 123% in value, and Russia, up 60.5% in volume and 103.1% in value.

In the nine months, Pakistan consumed 33.3% of Vietnam’s total volume of tea exports with 35,220 tons, worth 74.18 million USD, up 5.5% in volume and 15.1% in value over the same period in 2023.

Notably, tea exports to the Chinese market increased sharply by 245.6% in volume and 108.8% in value over the same period in 2023, reaching 10,470  tons, worth 14.94 million USD./.
