The US is second largest market of Vietnam’s pangasius

The US ranked second among the largest markets of Vietnam’s pangasius as the country’s pangagius export value to the market reached nearly 160 million USD in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 14%.

Pangasius export value to the US reached 95 million USD in the second half of the year, a year-on-year rise of 15%, according to data from the Vietnam Customs.

Exports of the commodity to the market reached nearly 160 million USD the first half, a year-on-year rise of 14%. In particular, April witnessed the highest pangasius export value since the beginning of this year, with nearly 38 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 34%.

In June 2024, the US imported more than 26 million USD worth of frozen pangasius fillets from Vietnam, a year-on-year rise of 20%. In the first six months, this market consumed more than 156 million USD worth of this product, a year-on-year increase of 13%, accounting for 98%.

Vietnamese pangasius products favored by US consumers include frozen pangasius fillets; frozen pangasius slices or divided pieces; frozen breaded pangasius; puffed pangasius jerky, and fried pangasius skin.

Notably, in the six months, value-added pangasius exports to the US also grew impressively, with nearly 2 million USD, eight times higher than the same period in 2023, accounting for 1% of the proportion.

In particular, April recorded the strongest growth compared to the same period, nearly 70,000 times higher than the same period last year, and June saw the most value-added pangasius export to the US since the beginning of this year, seven times higher than June 2023./.
