Vietnam bags nearly 600 million USD from exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet

In September, Vietnam’s exports of rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet reached 52.83 million USD, down 17.9% from the previous month but up 6.5% against the same period last year.

In the first 9 months of 2023, exports of the products totaled 538.69 million USD, down 16.3% from the same period last year.

However, this is still a key product in the export group of Vietnamese agricultural products and has great potential.

Accordingly, Vietnam has a large bamboo area of 1.5 million hectares, distributed in all provinces and cities across the country. With rich and diverse bamboo resources with hundreds of species, Vietnam has become one of the largest bamboo and rattan exporting countries in the world along with China and the Philippines.

Among the main export markets for this product group, the US is the largest market, followed by Japan and the UK.

According to statistics, Vietnam’s rattan, bamboo, sedge and carpet products exports to the EU in September 2023 reached 11.52 million USD. In the first 9 months of 2023, the figure was 136.44 million USD, accounting for 25.3% of the country’s total.

For the US market, in September, exports of the product group were valued at 17.80 million USD, bringing the total value in the first 9 months of 2023 to 203.8 million USD, accounting for 37.8% of the country’s total./.
