Vietnam’s African swine fever vaccines exported to Philippines and Indonesia

From now until October, Vietnam will export 2 million doses of African swine fever (ASF) vaccines to the Philippines and Indonesia, according to Head of the Department of Animal Health.

Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Animal Health under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that the Philippines has imported 300,000 doses of ASF vaccine from Vietnam and is using them.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Long, vaccine manufacturing enterprises in the country are also coordinating with localities to deploy vaccination for pig herds. Livestock households, farms, and businesses have been using ASF vaccines for pigs.

He evaluated the ASF vaccines have not only been for domestic consumption but also for export to markets. When exported to many countries with good results, it will be a favorable opportunity for the commercial expansion of Vietnam’s ASF vaccines.

Previously, after using 600,000 doses of vaccine with the supervision of the Department of Animal Health in more than 40 provinces and cities, with safe and effective results, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sent a document to the provinces and centrally-run cities on the use of vaccines on a large scale.

Businesses guide localities on technical criteria, selecting pigs that meet the conditions for vaccination against African swine fever. At the same time, actively and continuously monitoring the quality of vaccines and taking responsibility for the quality of vaccines when supplied in the market.

Besides, at the request of some countries, Vietnam has supported, sent experts and coordinated to organize vaccination against ASF.

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Dominican Republic has sent a letter of gratitude, appreciating the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, professional units and Vietnamese businesses, and looking forward to continuing to receive the support and proceeding to sell vaccines for use in the Dominican Republic.

The AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine of AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company has been used for vaccination in pig herds and evaluated with caution in the Philippines. The competent authority of the Philippines has announced the results of evaluating the vaccine to be safe, 100% of pigs vaccinated with AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine have antibody-producing immune responses.

Currently, Vietnam has two types of ASF vaccines, namely NAVET-ASFVAC of NAVETCO Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company and AVAC ASF LIVE of AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company, which are researched, produced and issued with Certificates for circulation./.
