The move to Ha Long bay is becoming much easier as Van Don International Airport was put into operation on December 30th, 2018, Channel News Asia said.
The Van Don International Airport
Located in the northern province of Quang Ninh, the airport is 50 kilometers from Ha Long Bay, the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Therefore, travelers can move by bus or taxi.
Previously, visitors would have to fly to Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi and it takes four hours by bus to Ha Long Bay.
The design of Van Don International Airport is inspired by the unique natural structure of Ha Long Bay, especially a very modern runway. Romy Berntsen, a project manager and architect from the Netherlands Airport Consultants, said this is the most modern airport in Vietnam.
Van Don was built within two years with a total capital of VND7.463 trillion. This is the first airport in Vietnam constructed by a private firm, Sun Group, the leading developer for projects and tourism, entertaining works.
The airport is expected to greet about 2.5 million passengers annually in the first phase and 5 million passengers by 2030.
Sun Group also invests in two big infrastructure projects in Quang Ninh, including Ha Long – Van Don highway and Ha Long international cruise port. Through the 60km highway, the travel time from Van Don Airport to Ha Long is 50 minutes./.
