The article by journalist Gaston Fiorda, recalled the historic moment in the revolution of our army and people, and affirmed the Dien Bien Phu victory brought peace to the Indochina Peninsula and was the premise leading to the signing of the Geneva Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace.

On the night of May 7, according to General De Castries' orders, the entire French army surrendered and was captured. Vietnam's modern history was associated with 100 years of French colonization and the heroic resistance war against France by the Vietnamese people, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese army and people successfully carried out the August Revolution in 1945 and won the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. The victory against the French colonialists gave the Vietnamese people the answer: a small country can defeat a great military power.

The three phases of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in the Muong Thanh basin were summarized in the article by journalist Gaston Fiorda. After more than 50 days and nights of courageous, cunning and creative fighting, the Vietnamese army and people destroyed the entire Dien Bien Phu stronghold group.

The Dien Bien Phu Campaign was the final chapter of the resistance war against the French that lasted more than 9 years, starting the disintegration of colonial institutions in many parts of the world. This was also the biggest military victory in the Indochina War (1945 - 1954) of Vietnam.

Seventy years have passed, but the echoes, significance and historical lessons from the Dien Bien Phu victory still resonate, forever a source of great encouragement for the Vietnamese people and other peace-loving people in the world./.
