Located about 300km from Hanoi, Mu Cang Chai is famous for its terraced fields that attract domestic and foreign tourists.
The AFP describes "spectacular terraced fields" in Mu Cang Chai located more than 1,000 meters above the sea level, mainly cultivated by the Mong ethnic group. Mu Cang Chai terraced fields are the most beautiful in September and October, when ripening rice overwhelms the region. At that time, Mu Cang Chai often welcomes a lot of tourists, bringing great benefits to the local people.
According to the AFP, before the COVID-19 pandemic, Hmong women in Mu Cang Chai often rented unique traditional costumes to tourists, while men earned about 600,000 - 700,000 VND per day from driving motorbikes carrying tourists to go sightseeing and explore the village. At present, however, not many tourists come to Mu Cang Chai.
Ms. Loan, a local person, told AFP: "We used to welcome a lot of tourists, but this year there are no people because of the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our only wish is to return to normal life," said Loan, a local person.
The French press also emphasized that Vietnam has recently opened its doors to international tourists. From November, international tourists have come to Phu Quoc Island and some other localities./.
