In a recent interview granted for Vietnam News Agency, Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of Saint Petersburg (Russia) Evgeny Grigoriev confirmed the Dien Bien Phu victory shows that there is no difficulty that cannot be overcome with determination and will.
He compared the Dien Bien Phu battle with Battle of Stalingrad (1942-1943) in the great national defence war of the former Soviet Union (now Russia), during which residents of the city overcame hundreds of days and nights of blockade to defeat the fascist army, creating a turning point in the war. Grigoriev underlined that national will is a decisive factor for victory in any battle.
“The victory was a great encouragement for peoples, especially neighbouring countries, to stand up for independence, firmly believing in the power of will and desire for independence in the fight against colonialism,” he said.
Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Labour Party (PT) of Mexico Alberto Anaya Guitiérrez, affirmed that the two victories have risen above the stature and boundary of a country, as they embodied and symbolised the burning desire and unyielding strength of a nation fighting for freedom and independence.
According to Mr. Alberto Anaya Guitiérrez, the great Dien Bien Phu victory on May 7, 1954 turned a new page in the history of world revolution, becoming a great source of encouragement for the struggle for independence in other countries around the world.
He recalled that during those days, the name of Dien Bien Phu and the slogan "Vietnam - Ho Chi Minh - Dien Bien Phu" resonated across the five continents, becoming a source of inspiration for the independence movement around the world.
“The spirit of solidarity, self-reliance, the will to fight, the determination to win and the historical lessons from the Dien Bien Phu victory have remained valid today, giving more strength to Vietnam to firmly go forward on the path that President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam have chosen,” he asserted.
The book Dien Bien Phu - An Immortal Song quotes Mr. Evgeni Glazunov - Minister Counselor of the Soviet Embassy in Vietnam in the period 1962-1965, who commented that the victory of Dien Bien Phu was a meaningful event of great significance, not only opened the way to negotiate the Geneva Agreement to liberate North Vietnam, but also defeated the war strategy of the French colonialists in Indochina.
Meanwhile, Major General Anatoli Pozdeev, former Soviet military expert, Vice President of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, said, "The Dien Bien Phu victory is not only a victory of the Vietnamese Army and people against the French colonial but also the American imperialists because before going to Vietnam to take up its duties, General Nava came to the United States to agree on a plan to re-colonize Vietnam, violating the peace commitment signed with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in early 1946".
Professor Ezequiel Ramoneda, coordinator of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CESEA) of the Institute of International Relations of the National University of La Plata Argentina (UNLP) affirmed the historic victory of Dien Bien Phu, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, is the spiritual symbol of the movement to fight for national liberation and independence of all colonial countries in similar circumstances, not just the countries that were French colonies at that time. This victory of the Vietnamese people is not only a source of support and encouragement, but also a testament to the efforts and sacrifices to overcome difficulties and hardships of a nation always fighting for independence and freedom.
Professor Ramoneda assessed that, in the context of a poor country, a young army, and no modern weapons, the Vietnamese people are still closely united under the leadership of the Communist Party, won a glorious victory over the very modern and powerful French army. The correct and wise political and military policy of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by President Ho Chi Minh, who flexibly and creatively applied Marxist-Leninist theory in Vietnam's actual conditions, played an extremely important role in the victory of Dien Bien Phu.
According to Professor Ramoneda, during the Dien Bien Phu campaign, the great solidarity and determination of the Vietnamese people were promoted at the highest level.
Praise, admiration and pride, that's how many international friends talk about the Dien Bien Phu victory. They considered that victory to be a great resource for the movement to fight for national independence of the people of other countries as well as millions of oppressed people around the world./.
