Dong Thap's lotus dishes make Asian record

Dong Thap has a large lotus growing area of the Mekong Delta. Many lotus growing areas have been expanded, and specialty products and gifts made from lotus materials have been developed in a rich, diverse, and highly artistic manner. Those are the lotus materials prepared by chefs into many different dishes, opening more opportunities for the lotus industry to develop in a multi-valued way.

According to Mr. Pham Thien Nghia, Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee, the lotus plant is always attached to the people and homeland of Dong Thap. In the project to restructure the local agricultural sector, the lotus industry has become one of the key industries and aims to develop lotus with a multi-valued form. In addition, Dong Thap has had policies and programs to develop startups and cooperate with businesses to develop large lotus fields to develop tourism, create raw materials and promote the value of lotus products for sustainable development of the industry.

Currently, Dong Thap has built a brand for lotus products, standardized products of the lotus industry to participate in the one product one commune (OCOP) program, and connected farmers to co-produce to create a material area to develop lotus plants. The development prospect of Dong Thap lotus is very great. There have been many successful lotus start-up projects and there are many products and gifts from Dong Thap lotus that meet the standard of 3 to 4 stars in the program of OCOP products.

In May 2022, within the framework of the 1st Lotus Festival, Vietnam Record Organization (Vietkings) and World Records established 200 dishes made from Dong Thap lotus. And up to now, the Asian Record Organization has awarded the certificate of culinary value to dishes from Dong Thap lotus./.
