Leading press agencies of the South American country have fully covered Chairman Hue’s important activities, including his meeting with President of Uruguay Luis Lacalle Pou, talks with Speaker of the Senate and Vice President of Uruguay Beatriz Argimon and Speaker of the House of Representatives Sebastian Andujar, as well as meeting with President of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) Parliament (PARLASUR) Gustavo Penades.

They stressed that Chairman Hue’s visit holds special significance as it is the first trip to this South American nation by a senior leader of Vietnam since the two countries set up diplomatic relations 30 years ago.

The visit will help further intensify cooperation between the two parliaments, thus helping build up political trust and mutual understanding and promote bilateral sustainable cooperation, they noted.

Local media also reported the visit’s outcomes, including the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese NA and the Senate and the House of Representatives of Uruguay, saying this is the first time the Vietnamese parliament and the two legislative bodies of Uruguay has inked such a deal, which shows the importance that both the upper and lower houses of Uruguay attach to the reinforcement of ties with the Southeast Asian country.

Media outlets of Montevideo also covered the top Vietnamese legislator’s meeting with Mayor Mauricio Zunino and highlighted local administration and people’s honour when Chairman Hue accepted the invitation to become an honorary citizen of this city.

Particularly, Uruguayan leaders frequently updated their social network pages with news on the visit. The Facebook page of Senate President Beatriz Argimon shared information about the welcome ceremony and the talks with Chairman Hue. Meanwhile, images of the honorary citizenship presentation ceremony posted by the Twitter account of Montevideo city have recorded over 7,000 views./.
