Disseminating information in Egypt on developments in the East Sea

(CPV) - The Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt has recently met with press agencies in Egypt to inform them of the situation in the East Sea due to China’s illegal placement of the Haiyang Shiyou-981 drilling rig in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and continental shelf.

During the meeting, the embassy gave specific information on China’s acts of violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty, sovereign right and jurisdiction, violation of international laws, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) that China joined, as well as agreements between the two countries.
The embassy highlighted the serious and dangerous nature of these actions and the aggression of Chinese forces around the drilling rig site. China’s slander against Vietnam was also discussed. Meanwhile, the embassy noted Vietnam’s utmost restraint, vigorously fighting by diplomatic and peaceful means in accordance with international law, to protect its sovereignty, sovereign right and jurisdiction.
A confirmation that the Vietnamese Government and people always attach importance and do their utmost to maintain the positive friendship with China was also announced during the meeting. Vietnam’s consistent policy is not to add complexity to the situation and to address disputes through negotiations and peaceful measures based on international laws, including the 1982 UNCLOS, the embassy representatives stressed.
During the meeting, the embassy disseminated documents relating to the Prime Minister’s speech at the 24th ASEAN Summit in Myanmar, the declaration of ASEAN foreign ministers, books, newspapers and maps relating to sea and islands./.
